Question by funkychicken: Resort Casual – Men’s Dress Sandals?
Going on a Carnival cruise. The attire for dinner is “resort casual”. I poked around the net and see folks saying that men can wear “dress sandals” for resort casual. I have a nice pair of Olukai leather flips that cost $ $ . Do these qualify as dress sandals? I want to wear them with khaki pants / or nice shorts + a polo. Pic of sandals coal/kona style

I didn’t look at the photo but I have been on many cruises and can tell you that as long as you are dressed properly with slacks and a shirts with a collar (other than a “T” shirt) the shoes you describe will be fine. I have worn slacks and a polo to the main dining room many times. However I don’t think the shorts are appropriate for the main dining room; they would be fine if you go to the buffet. The other thing you need to know is you can put those clothes on for dinner and then after wards if you want to go put your shorts back on. People will be walking around in shorts all evening because not everyone will be dressing to go to the main dining room. The ship’s staff, other than the MatreD at the main dining room, don’t pay attention to how you are dressed as resort casual. So you can go in the show room, the casino and most other places dressed very casual. Except you may not want to go in the disco in shorts and sandals.

They are fine for th ship (most people dress in regular summer clothing) I would not suggest wearing them to the dining room. Slip on a pair of loafers and change back to your sandals after dinner.

The sandals would not be a problem. And Khaki pants are fine. But shorts are not allowed in the dining room for dinner. You can wear them at the buffet.

Just replace shorts with slacks for when you go to the main dining room and you’re good to go! 🙂

are you kidding? sandals? they are never “dressy” talk about walmart chic/tacky. are you 8?
