A sport coat comes by its self, and can be worn to compliment other clothing. A suit coat is meant to be worn as part of a suit, with matching pants of the same material and print.

Not much usually the cut is a little different like single breasted instead of double, or the fabric is different usually a sport coat is made of heavier fabrics.
